Things to Do in Suffolk VA This Fall: Your 2026 Event Guide

On September 12, downtown Suffolk hosted the 17th Annual Taste of Suffolk from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an after party running until 8. Main Street was lined with independent restaurants offering sample-sized portions of their signature dishes, the way it has been for going on two decades. A few miles away, New Realm Brewing Co. was running Boots and Bourbon starting at 11:30 that same morning. And by 7 p.m., HUB757 had Kierra Sheard and Jay Todd on stage for a ticketed concert. Three separate draws, three separate crowds, one Saturday. Nobody scheduled it that way on purpose. It happened because Suffolk's entire fall calendar runs through a five-week tunnel between Labor Day and Columbus Day, and there wasn't enough runway to spread everything out.

That crowding is worth understanding if you live here, because it changes how you plan a weekend from late summer through mid-October. The season isn't a string of evenly spaced events. It's a small number of very full weekends followed by stretches where almost nothing is happening at all.

Five Weeks Carrying the Whole Season

Line up what actually happened and what's still ahead, and the compression becomes obvious. The Suffolk Plein Air Festival opened September 7 at 110 West Finney Avenue, with a Wet Paint Sale & Soiree at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts on September 11. That same afternoon, the Peanut Fest Golf Tournament teed off at Sleepy Hole Golf Course, raising money for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Freedom Flag Foundation. The next day brought the Taste of Suffolk collision described above. A week later, New Realm ran its Oktoberfest weekend with an Oompah Band handling the late morning and Vince Kornegay closing out the afternoon, followed almost immediately by DOGtober Fest. Wing Fest landed on September 26. The Suffolk Pride Festival was scheduled for Bennetts Creek Park on September 27. New Realm's rooftop Trick or Tiki Halloween pop-up was scheduled to start September 30 and run Wednesday through Sunday evenings from there. Then the Peanut Fest machinery kicks into its final stretch: a Queen's Banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront on October 1, a parade through downtown on October 3, and the festival itself, October 8 through 11, at the Suffolk Executive Airport.

Oct 1 Peanut Fest Queen's Banquet Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront
Oct 3 Peanut Fest Parade Downtown Suffolk
Oct 8-11 48th Annual Suffolk Peanut Fest Suffolk Executive Airport

Count the gaps and there aren't many. From the first weekend of Plein Air through the last night of Peanut Fest, there is barely a week that doesn't have at least one named event pulling on the calendar, and several weeks that have three or four competing for the same evening.

The Airport Crowd and the Rooftop Crowd Don't Mix

What's easy to miss, looking at that density, is that it isn't one audience showing up over and over. It's two audiences running parallel tracks that happen to occupy the same five weeks without much overlap.

The Suffolk Peanut Fest is built around agricultural heritage and multi-generation family tradition. This year's theme, "Celebrating Generations," was chosen by 2026 Festival Chairman Kate Rawls after more than 15 years volunteering with the event, and the programming reflects it: DockDogs competitions, a Demolition Derby, Monster Truck Rides, a Shrimp Feast, Peanut Butter Sculpting, the Peanut Cup Auto Race, the Swamp Roar Motorcycle Rally, hot air balloons, a petting zoo, Senior Bingo, and a new drone show for 2026. Sunday is Military Appreciation Day, with free admission for active and retired military and first responders. General admission runs $10 a person, kids 12 and under are free, and parking doesn't cost anything. It's produced by Suffolk Festivals, Inc., and it happens out at the Executive Airport, away from downtown foot traffic.

New Realm's run through the same window looks nothing like that. Boots and Bourbon, Oktoberfest, DOGtober Fest, Wing Fest, and now the Trick or Tiki rooftop series are taproom-style events aimed at an adult crowd that wants live music, seasonal beer, and a themed Saturday afternoon rather than carnival rides. There's no ticketed admission structure to speak of. It's the kind of calendar a brewery builds when it wants regulars showing up every couple of weeks, not a once-a-year destination crowd.

Both calendars are legitimately full. Neither one is competing for the other's audience, except on the days when the dates happen to land on top of each other, like September 12.

Peanut Fest Started Three Weeks Before Anyone Noticed

Most residents think of Peanut Fest as a four-day event at the airport in October. The golf tournament, the Queen's Banquet, and the downtown parade tell a different story. The tournament ran September 11, three and a half weeks before the gates open, and it's tied to two named nonprofit beneficiaries rather than the festival's own operating budget. The Queen's Banquet on October 1 happens at the Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront, a hotel event with tickets sold through Cecelia's Boutique & Gifts and the Suffolk Visitor Center rather than through the festival gate. The parade on October 3, presented by Ace Hardware, Atlantic Constructors, and SKY4 WSKY TV, moves through downtown Suffolk five days before the festival grounds even open, putting the event's public face on Main Street while the actual festival stays out by the airport.

Add it up and Peanut Fest isn't a four-day festival. It's a month-long production with a fundraising tournament, a formal banquet, and a downtown parade built in before a single carnival ride turns on. If you've only ever shown up for the weekend at the airport, you've been seeing the last quarter of it.

The Saturday Habit That Keeps Its Slot

Against all of that stacking, one thing on the calendar keeps its regular Saturday morning slot. The Suffolk Farmers' Market runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Suffolk Visitor Center Outdoor Pavilion on North Main Street, and its 2026 season continues through November 21. It runs alongside the other events on this list, week after week, with local produce, baked goods, honey, jams, live music, and food trucks. It's the one fixture on the fall calendar that isn't trying to be a destination. It's just there, every Saturday morning, whether or not the rest of the city is at the airport, on a rooftop, or downtown chasing a parade.

By the time Suffolk Peanut Fest wraps up on October 11, the city will have run through a golf tournament, a plein air week, a downtown street festival, a run of brewery-hosted events, a Pride festival, a Halloween cocktail pop-up, a formal banquet, and a parade, all inside thirty-five days. What comes after tends to go quiet fast. The market keeps its Saturday morning slot regardless, a steady fixture on the fall calendar.
